We squeezed in one last Getaway before the December holidays and we are so happy we could tick Strandskloof off our list. We have heard only great things about this Caravan Park and we were able to see for ourselves what the fuss is about!
Located amidst beautiful “melkhout” trees and fynbos, nestled snugly against the Franskraal Mountain with a view on Dyer Island, Strandskloof provides campers amenities true to the ambience of the Strandveld. Rise with the cry of the fish eagle nesting in the kloof, spreading its wings to meet another glorious day of relaxation in the Mediterranean climate of the area. Retire with the magnificent hues of the setting sun over the mountain top. In-between, leisure away on the vast beaches only minutes away, or simply enjoy the park’s entertainment facilities with your kids.
When we arrived, the first thing that really stood out to us were the size of the camping plots, all offering loose braai drums. Spacious and neat, with more than enough area for you to set up. Most of the plots have reed fencing, offering you privacy from other campers and some plots are even grouped together two at a time, for families or friends camping together. The grass and lawns are well looked after, with a proper irrigation system working throughout the day. It made the open spaces so much more appealing and inviting, as the grass areas are in great condition and perfect for a ball game or two. The ablutions are extremely neat, and fairly large, offering both showers and baths. This was really a bonus point for us, as we did not have to take along a portable bath for Xander and Zara, saving us a lot of space in the trailer. There is also a laundry room onsite, with coin operated washing machines and dryer.
Strandkloof also offers numerous great amenities. Whether you want to relax next to the swimming pool (both normal and heated) or challenge your kids to a round of putt-putt, there will be something for the whole family to do, even a jungle gum for the little ones. Both pools are surrounded by safety fencing, really giving your that piece of mind you need when you want to relax yourself. There is also an entertainment hall that can be rented for special events. Strandskloof really has beautiful scenery, making it the perfect spot for joggers to add some miles to their running shoes. The road exiting the camping grounds is long and flat, offering breathtaking views along with horses reigning freely, cattle grazing the fields and lots of fresh salty air.
We also managed to visit the famous Raka Wines nearby for a wine tasting, and a light lunch at Birkenhead Brewery in Standford, all only a hop and a skip away. This Getaway ended up being the perfect last weekend trip for the year, before we dive into our much-anticipated December holiday in the Garden Route.
