Rewind back even further, to 2012. Ok, we did not have any kids then, but this place is surely one I will visit again, this time with the kids!
The Cottages we stayed in at the time (unfortunately not suitable for children) overlook a sweeping bend in the Gamka River. They are situated in the Matjiesvlei valley on The River Farm in the heart of a World Biodiversity Hotspot in the Little Karoo. Views for days (of the Swartberg Mountain Range) and the peace and quiet is almost overwhelming, if you come from the city. With this said, you leave there feeling totally recharged and the noise of the city back home then feels strange! What we missed most was the star gazing at night, what a beauty!
So although these cottages are not suitable for babies, toddles or children, do not fret! The farm also offers a larger place, called The Old School House. It was converted in 2001 into family accommodation, a century after it was first constructed as the local Dutch Reformed Church and school. It is just down the road from the Cottages and it accommodates 6 people in three bedrooms. And all the stunning stuff mentioned above all still applies!
